Wesley Chapel, Florida – Saddlebrook Resort has initiated a significant $92 million revitalization project aimed at transforming its golf and leisure experiences. Located near Tampa, Florida, this 480-acre resort has been a popular destination for over 40 years, catering to leisure travelers, golf enthusiasts, and event groups.
The project began after the property was acquired in 2022 by Mast Capital, in partnership with Amzak Capital Management. The redevelopment efforts are focused on reestablishing Saddlebrook as a premier destination by overhauling resort facilities and the golf course, attracting both new visitors and returning patrons.
Under the guidance of world-renowned golf course architect Rees Jones, Saddlebrook’s golf grounds will undergo a substantial redesign. The existing two 18-hole golf courses, initially designed by Arnold Palmer, are set to be reconfigured into three 9-hole championship courses. This innovative layout will present three distinct playing experiences, enhancing the versatility of the course.
As part of the renovation, six holes from the former Palmer Course will be integrated, along with a redesigned driving range located closer to the main lobby for improved accessibility. The new driving range will extend over 360 yards and feature a comprehensive practice facility that encompasses 13 acres of space. The upgraded facilities will include:
- A double-sided driving range
- Two TifEagleâ„¢ bermudagrass putting greens
- Three short-game areas equipped with precision-designed greenside bunkers
The renovation efforts will conform to USGA specifications, which includes rebuilding green complexes and reshaping bunkers. An advanced irrigation and drainage system will be installed to enhance the sustainability and overall quality of the turf. The course distances for the rotating layouts will range between 6,600 and 7,005 yards, with pars set at 71 or 72, making it suitable for a variety of skill levels.
Initial openings for the new nine-hole courses are projected for late 2025 and early 2026. The third course is currently open for limited play, with full renovations planned for spring/summer 2026.
The revitalization not only focuses on the golf experience but also encompasses the resort’s master plan, which is being led by EoA Group. Plans include:
- Upgraded guest rooms and residential-style suites
- New dining concepts
- Modernized event spaces
- Enhanced outdoor areas and multiple pool options
- Over 40,000 square feet of meeting space
Beyond leisure, Saddlebrook will continue to serve as a world-class sports training facility, boasting:
- 43 tennis courts
- Eight pickleball courts
- A state-of-the-art fitness center
- A spa
- A planned multi-court padel complex
The resort is home to the Saddlebrook Golf Academy and the distinguished Hopman Tennis Program, which has trained numerous tennis legends, including Pete Sampras, Jim Courier, and ATP World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, who has been training there since he was 12.
Operational management of the golf and membership services at Saddlebrook Resort will be overseen by Troon Golf, a leader in the golf industry. Conveniently located just 30 minutes from Tampa International Airport, the resort is easily accessible for visitors.
The revitalization project also includes plans for a new town center on the property, which will feature 465 rental apartments, 25 townhomes, and 75,000 square feet of retail and office space, aiming to enhance the community and visitor experience even further.
