News Summary

The decision, made by Superintendent Dr. Randy Shearouse, comes as the Ardmore Water Department faces significant challenges due to a broken valve incident. Residents are urged to conserve water as local officials work to restore services and prioritize the health and safety of students. Meanwhile, the Ardmore Fire & Rescue is providing essential drinking water while a ‘No Burn’ order is in effect.

Ardmore, Alabama has announced the cancellation of classes for Ardmore High School and Cedar Hill Elementary on Tuesday due to ongoing water issues affecting the city. The decision, confirmed by Limestone City Schools Superintendent Dr. Randy Shearouse, comes as the local water department continues to face challenges related to the water supply.

The Ardmore Water Department reported that the Limestone County Water Authority had removed Ardmore Water from their system because of problems with water tanks. This action has led to significantly reduced water pressure throughout the city, prompting officials to ask residents to conserve water during this period.

As a response to the situation, Ardmore Fire & Rescue is providing essential services by offering drinking water and water for flushing at their station located at 26704 Main Street. In addition, the town has implemented a “No Burn” order to prevent any fire-related emergencies amid the low water supply.

The source of the water issues lies in a broken valve incident that occurred during repairs to water lines on Friday morning. The valve, which was meant to be closed for repairs, broke closed and interrupted the water flow to Ardmore High School and Middle School. This caused significant inconvenience, as essential services such as restroom facilities and food service were rendered unavailable.

Classes were initially dismissed for the middle and high schools at 9 a.m. on Friday due to the lack of running water, although the water flow was restored by 10:30 a.m. after the valve was successfully fixed. However, the lingering concerns over the city’s water supply have led to the current cancellation of classes on Tuesday, as officials continue to monitor the situation and prioritize the health and safety of students and staff.

In light of these incidents, the Water Department is actively collaborating with Limestone County to resolve the ongoing issues. While wells remain operational, the continuing low water pressure is a concern for authorities and local residents alike.

The circumstances surrounding the water supply issues are prompting calls for increased vigilance among community members. Residents are encouraged to conserve water and report any further problems to the appropriate authorities as the town works through these challenges.

As the situation continues to evolve, local officials remain focused on ensuring a sustainable water supply for Ardmore and its residents, while preparing to address educational interruptions caused by these water issues.
