The Eagles Soar Again: Santa Margarita Girls Golf Team Claims CIF-SS Division 1 Title

In an extraordinary display of teamwork and skill, the Santa Margarita girls golf team has successfully reclaimed the CIF-SS Division 1 title at the beautiful Los Serranos Golf Club. This event witnessed an inspiring performance from the Eagles, who managed to shoot an impressive 18-under-par 352 to secure their championship crown.

Brilliant Performances from Every Player

The stars of the day were all five players who contributed to this remarkable score, as they each delivered individual performances under par. Donina Zhou led the charge with an incredible 5-under-par 69, proving her prowess on the links. Not far behind, Angelina Tao matched Zhou’s outstanding score of 69, while Annika Raja kept the momentum going with a 70.

Nora Qu and Emily Song played vital roles as well, finishing with scores of 71 and 73 respectively. Meanwhile, Madelyn Cheng also recorded a 73, showcasing the depth of talent within the Eagles’ squad. Together, these performances not only secured the Division 1 title but also demonstrated the incredible synergy of this talented team.

The Competition

While Santa Margarita made their mark, Orange Lutheran was close on their heels, finishing second with a score of 365, thanks largely to Gabrielle Kim’s solid 71. The competition saw Crean Lutheran and Northwood take third and fourth places respectively, finishing with scores of 381 and 384.

Now, the Eagles will be taking their talents to the next level, as they prepare to compete in the CIF Southern California Regional next week, where they will once again face Orange Lutheran and Northwood. With their sights set on victory, the Eagles are eager to continue their impressive journey in golf.

Other Championship Highlights

This past week was a busy one for high school golf, as several teams vied for their own championships too. Portola successfully defended their Division 2 title, narrowly beating San Marino by just two strokes at Bear Valley Country Club. In the Division 3 match-up, JSerra squeaked past Chadwick, triumphing by a single stroke to claim the championship at River Ridge Golf Club.

A Strong Road to the Regionals

Prior to their Division 1 victory, the Eagles had already shown remarkable skills by finishing first at the regional qualifier and the CIF-SS individual finals held at Temecula Creek Golf Club. Here, the team posted a 1-under-par 359 in the qualifier, easily advancing to the regional competition. In comparison, Orange Lutheran secured second place with a score of 370, while Northwood’s 394 allowed them to qualify alongside Diamond Bar.

Speaking of Diamond Bar, their star, Moanikeala Finau, earned the CIF-SS individual title with an impressive score of 66. Finau’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed, as she has committed to play for Cal State Northridge. Donina Zhou also made headlines by finishing third with her 69, firmly placing her among the elite county golfers. Being only a junior, she is committed to Princeton, and her future in golf looks extraordinarily bright.

Looking Ahead

With such remarkable achievements, the Santa Margarita girls golf team is definitely one to watch in the upcoming regional competition. Their resilience, teamwork, and unwavering drive to win could lead them to even greater heights as they aim for another title. Stay tuned as they continue their quest for glory on the greens!
