News Summary

Cleveland police have apprehended ten suspects, including a 12-year-old, involved in multiple vehicle break-ins at a downtown hotel. The group targeted at least 24 vehicles and was pursued by authorities after abandoning stolen vehicles. The arrests come amid rising concerns about youth involvement in crime, prompting police to urge the public for vigilance. Ongoing investigations are underway to combat this troubling trend.

Cleveland police have arrested ten individuals, including a 12-year-old juvenile, in connection with a string of vehicle break-ins at a downtown hotel. The arrests occurred early Sunday morning after law enforcement received reports of multiple break-ins at the Hilton Garden Inn on the 1100 block of Carnegie Avenue.

The incident involved at least 24 vehicles that were targeted, with additional break-ins discovered near East 14th Street and Euclid Avenue, as well as further east at East 120th Street and Mayfield Road in Little Italy. By 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, authorities confirmed that the suspects were operating using two stolen vehicles during the series of break-ins. One of these vehicles was traced back to another theft that occurred on the 2100 block of Columbus Road in the Ohio City and Tremont area.

During a police pursuit, the suspects abandoned one stolen vehicle and entered another stolen car. Their actions were characterized by police as reckless and endangering not only their safety but also the community and the officers involved in the pursuit. Authorities succeeded in locating the suspects in a vacant apartment building situated on the 2600 block of Loop Avenue and arrested them there.

Among those arrested, there were nine juveniles and one adult female. The group is facing potential charges that include breaking and entering, tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, grand theft of motor vehicles, as well as possession of weapons under disability. All individuals were found trespassing in an unoccupied structure with the intent to commit a felony. Law enforcement seized three firearms that were hidden inside the apartment during the arrests.

As a result of the arrests, six of the nine juveniles are currently being held in juvenile detention while awaiting trial. The adult female involved was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail. The Cleveland Police Chief has expressed concern regarding the involvement of teenagers in such criminal activities and highlighted the ongoing investigations as authorities work to address similar incidents.

This latest crime spree comes on the heels of numerous vehicle break-ins in the Ohio City and Tremont neighborhoods over recent weekends. Cleveland police are urging the public to report any similar incidents and encourage anyone with additional information to reach out to the Cleveland Division of Police.

The scale of damage incurred from the vehicle break-ins has been described as significant, prompting the police to pursue comprehensive investigations. The investigation into this matter remains active, with authorities continuing to follow leads to ensure full accountability for those involved in these criminal acts. As law enforcement works to combat this troubling trend, community members are asked to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious activities.

In summary, the arrests of these juveniles and the adult woman highlight a concerning trend of youth involvement in criminal activities within the community. Cleveland police are dedicated to addressing the issue and reassure the public that they are actively seeking to resolve the ongoing problem of vehicle break-ins in the city.
