Bullard Contractor Charged with Embezzling Over $500,000 from Homeowners for Personal Use

Bullard, Texas – Brian Christopher Glass, a 51-year-old contractor, faces charges for misapplication of fiduciary property exceeding $300,000. Glass was arrested on Tuesday and is currently held in the Smith County Jail, following allegations of embezzling funds from a couple who had entrusted him to rebuild their home.

The investigation into Glass began when a husband and wife contacted the Smith County Sheriff’s Office in January 2025. They had hired Glass to rebuild their home after it was destroyed by a lightning strike and subsequent fire. The couple engaged Glass’s services through his business, Glass Limitless Homes and Designs, and paid him a total of more than $500,000 for the construction project between April and July 2024.

However, the couple became concerned when, in July 2024, subcontractors stopped work on the project due to nonpayment by Glass. Despite their contractual agreement, Glass was requesting additional funds beyond the original price outlined in their signed contract. As the situation deteriorated, the couple began paying subcontractors and businesses directly for construction materials to ensure the work continued.

Frustrated, the couple reported their situation to the sheriff’s office in November 2024. During the investigation, they presented detailed records of all payments made to Glass, which totaled $518,206. Bank records showed that around $115,989 of those funds was actually allocated to pay subcontractors and purchase materials. Alarmingly, investigators discovered that approximately $400,000 of the funds was misappropriated by Glass for personal expenses, including trips to casinos.

Following the couple’s report, an investigator attempted to contact Glass by phone to discuss the case but was met with refusal when requesting him to come to the sheriff’s office for clarification regarding the handling of the funds.

In light of this incident, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to homeowners about the importance of verifying business references before hiring contractors. They recommend caution particularly if a contractor’s business is not registered with the Better Business Bureau. Moreover, homeowners should ensure that contractors provide written quotes and paid receipts for building materials throughout the construction process to safeguard against potential fraud.

This case serves as a reminder of the risks involved in hiring contractors and the unfortunate reality that individuals may attempt to defraud unsuspecting homeowners, even those who initially appear trustworthy. The investigation into Glass’s activities is ongoing, and those who may have fallen victim to similar instances are encouraged to step forward.
