Construction projects in Lake Tahoe region impacting traffic flow.
Motorists in the Lake Tahoe area should prepare for several lane closures and construction projects due to CalTrans initiatives. Key projects include pavement rehabilitation along State Route 28 in Tahoe City, which is expected to impact travel times. Utility work is also scheduled on various routes. The Fanny Bridge will remain closed until mid-November, requiring detours for access. Noise and vibrations from construction activities are anticipated over the coming days, prompting travelers to stay informed about the ongoing developments.
Lake Tahoe – Motorists in the Lake Tahoe region should prepare for numerous lane closures and construction projects announced by CalTrans for the upcoming week. The various projects involve significant rehabilitation work and utility upgrades that may impact travel times and access to certain areas.
One of the major ongoing initiatives is a pavement rehabilitation project along State Route 28 (SR 28) in Tahoe City, valued at $31.7 million. This extensive project is being carried out by Mercer Fraser Company of Eureka and will run from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily, starting from Sunday, August 24 through Thursday, August 28. The construction zone will stretch between Commons Beach Road and Grove Street, imposing restrictions on westbound traffic while allowing bi-directional travel in the area. Motorists should take note that street parking will not be permitted in the construction zone, although access to cross streets and driveways will remain open during this timeframe.
In addition to the SR 28 project, utility work is set to take place between Star Harbor Court and Lake Forest Road (west) from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, August 25 and Tuesday, August 26.
The Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City remains closed to all traffic and is projected to continue its closure until Saturday, November 15. During this period, motorists will need to rely on detours via Lake Boulevard to access State Route 89 (SR 89) and SR 28. Fortunately, West Lake Boulevard is still open for business and transit access despite the disruptions caused by the Fanny Bridge closure. Furthermore, the pedestrian and bicycle path traversing the Truckee River Dam will remain open throughout the duration of the projects.
To prepare residents and travelers for the noise associated with construction, pile driving activities are scheduled for Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24, which may generate vibrations in the nearby areas.
Broadband utility work will also be conducted along SR 28 from Monday, August 25 through Thursday, August 28, operating from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and extending from the State Route 267 junction in Kings Beach to the Nevada state line. Additionally, overnight utility work is scheduled to occur from 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 24 until 7 a.m. on Monday, August 25, between Park Lane and Harbor Avenue in Brockway.
Lastly, utility work along SR 89 in Placer County will take place from Monday, August 25 through Thursday, August 28, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Homewood area, specifically between South Street and Fern Street.
Residents and travelers alike are advised to remain informed about the progress of these projects, as schedules may change due to weather conditions, equipment availability, or unexpected events.
