New York City's business community is rallying behind Mayor Eric Adams.
As the general election approaches, New York City’s business and real estate sectors are increasingly supporting Mayor Eric Adams. Recent endorsements highlight a shift in political allegiance from former Governor Andrew Cuomo. Adams has seen significant fundraising success, raising over $1.5 million from business employees, including notable contributions from real estate firms. Supporting super PACs have also emerged as donor interest grows. Alongside these developments, Adams emphasizes public safety while balancing law enforcement and immigration policies, gaining community engagement through technology and outreach initiatives.
New York City is witnessing a notable shift in political backing within its influential business and real estate sectors, with Mayor Eric Adams increasingly gaining favor over former Governor Andrew Cuomo as the city approaches its upcoming general election.
Many prominent figures in the city’s business community are now publicly endorsing Adams, citing a widespread dissatisfaction with Cuomo’s recent campaign efforts and leadership. Some key executives have expressed that their support for Adams is driven by his stance on economic growth and social issues.
Adams highlighted his robust fundraising performance at a recent event hosted in Florida, attended by influencers aligned with former President Trump. The event reportedly raised around $1 million. His campaign finance report further reflects strong backing, revealing that Adams has raised over $1.5 million from employees within the business and real estate sectors.
In particular, donations from employees of SL Green, a major real estate firm aiming to develop a casino in Times Square, totaled nearly $70,000. The company’s chairman, Marc Holliday, publicly praised Adams for being pro-business and socially engaged, adding weight to the support from the real estate industry.
The political action committee Empower NYC, which is supporting Adams’ campaign, reported raising $425,000. The PAC noted that after the primary election, there has been increased interest from donors eager to back Adams’ bid for mayor. Among his largest individual contributors was the head of Extell Development, who contributed $250,000.
Some supporters of Cuomo, such as Kenny Burgos from the New York Apartment Association, remain undecided as the race becomes increasingly competitive and crowded with candidates.
Many donors and supporters are reportedly tired of Cuomo’s campaign, recalling a previous investment of over $24 million that yielded limited results. This perception appears to be influencing their current support, favoring Adams’ more active campaign approach.
In recent news, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was shot in an incident within the city. The officer is currently hospitalized in stable condition. Authorities arrested two suspects in connection to the shooting as part of ongoing investigations.
Mayor Adams expressed strong support for law enforcement’s efforts to apprehend those responsible for violent crimes, while also criticizing broad immigration enforcement crackdowns that target undocumented individuals. He linked the recent shooting to the effects of bail reform laws enacted under Cuomo, which Adams describes as part of a “revolving door criminal justice system.”
Adams has committed to improving safety in city neighborhoods, including visits to NYCHA housing projects. Recently, he participated in a community event promoting public safety awareness by engaging with the Citizen app. The initiative aims to provide real-time alerts about incidents, fostering faster communication with residents.
As part of his efforts to promote community involvement, Adams accepted a public challenge to perform pull-ups on a street light, advocating for the “Pull-up for Peace Challenge” to foster community unity and positivity.
The shift of support within New York City’s business community toward Mayor Eric Adams reflects a significant change as the city prepares for its upcoming mayoral election. With strong fundraising numbers, key industry endorsements, and a focus on public safety, Adams is positioning himself as a leading candidate to address both economic and social concerns. Meanwhile, ongoing incidents and community engagement efforts underscore the challenges and initiatives shaping the city’s political landscape at this critical juncture.
