West Branch, Ohio – Students in the West Branch High School Construction Trades program have undertaken an ambitious project by building a 10- by 12-foot storage shed. This endeavor is a component of the Career Connections Apprenticeship Program, designed to immerse students in practical construction skills.

The students have engaged in various aspects of construction, including wall construction, roofing, foundation layout, trim carpentry, soffit and fascia installation, rafter layout, sheathing, and joist layout. These skills are vital in preparing students for careers in the construction industry. Upon completing the third-year course within the program, students will receive a Career Connections Certification, as well as 12 alternative graduation credits and state certification as apprentice carpenters.

The handmade shed will be raffled off to the public, with raffle ticket prices set at $20 each. The proceeds generated from this raffle will be allocated to support future students participating in the Construction Trades program, ensuring its sustainability and continued growth.

Raffle tickets are available for purchase at all home football games, through the high school office, or directly from students in Rodger Sharp’s Building Construction Trades class. The shed itself will be prominently displayed during these home games, allowing the community to view the impressive work completed by the students.

The drawing for the raffle will take place during the last home football game on October 17, 2025, marking a significant event for both the students and the local community. This initiative serves not only to fund the program but also to highlight the hard work and dedication of the students involved in the project.

The Construction Trades program aims to equip students with essential skills needed in the construction industry, thereby enhancing their prospects for future employment and success. By engaging in hands-on projects like the storage shed, students gain invaluable experience that will translate into real-world applications.
