AECOM Hunt and Turner Construction Company have been selected as the construction managers for the new $2.4 billion Cleveland Browns stadium project, known as Huntington Bank Field. The announcement was made by the Haslam Sports Group, the owners of the Cleveland Browns NFL franchise.

The new stadium will be situated in suburban Brook Park, Ohio and is set to be Ohio’s first enclosed stadium, which is designed to accommodate year-round events beyond just football. Enabling work for the construction commenced on October 1, 2025, with a formal groundbreaking anticipated in early 2026. The projected completion date for the stadium is in 2029.

Huntington Bank Field is designed to seat 67,500 fans and is envisioned as a “super theater” by the architectural firm HKS, which has experience in designing sports facilities. While the seating capacity will be comparable to the current home of the Cleveland Browns, the new layout aims to create a more intimate experience that brings fans closer to the action. The stadium is also being designed to host events for up to 75,000 attendees, including NCAA Final Fours, international soccer matches, and concerts.

One of the distinctive features of the new stadium will be its translucent roof, which will allow natural light to shine onto the field. The design incorporates a first-of-its-kind long-span roofing system that does not utilize traditional trusses. This innovative architectural approach is expected to enhance the fan experience significantly.

The stadium construction project is projected to generate over 6,000 construction jobs in the region and create thousands of additional full-time positions both within the stadium and the surrounding mixed-use development. Local partners involved in the project include the DiGeronimo Companies and Independence Excavating.

AECOM Hunt has a history of managing construction for both the Browns’ current stadium and the Cleveland Guardians‘ Progressive Field. Turner Construction has previously worked on renovations of the Browns’ current stadium and the Lower.com Field for the Columbus Crew. In addition to this joint venture, HKS will be collaborating with the construction teams to bring their vision to life, similar to their role in the SoFi Stadium project located in California.

The Huntington Bank Field stadium is envisioned as part of an extensive economic development initiative, which is described as the largest in Northeast Ohio‘s history. Surrounding the new stadium, the Lincoln Property Company will develop a mixed-use entertainment district, with the first phase expected to be completed by 2029.

However, the project faces significant challenges, including a lawsuit related to funding and disputes with the city of Cleveland concerning the existing lease and land development agreements. Recently, the Ohio Department of Transportation approved essential permits for construction after addressing height concerns raised by Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

To finance the new stadium, the Haslam Sports Group has successfully secured $600 million from unclaimed funds, providing a significant boost to the overall funding efforts for the project.
